Philosophy

Life is all about shapes, whether one views them in color, black and white, or abstracts. I do not deal well with the preconceived notions that one must find a niche in photography which is the common point of view. Shapes are everywhere in all subjects. Thus, if I must be placed in a niche, make it shapes.

My favorite writer and photographer is David Vestal. I was introduced to his ideas in magazines that dealt with traditional black and white and darkroom techniques in the 1980′s. Every time I go out to shoot, work on computer, or print in traditional darkroom, I always remember my favorite quote of his, “No Plans”. He taught me that there is less frustration if  I haven’t pre-imaged the result.

I take great pride in my work and would not show a photograph that I would not hang in my own home.

Those doing digital manipulation of their own photos deserve the respect to be viewed for whatever their final product is-not the process. — Julie Rodriguez Jones
